Find out if you are a permanent make up candidate:
-
Cosmetic tattooing uses the same basic set of techniques as traditional tattoos with some small differences. Cosmetic tattoos and permanent make up fade faster because the pigment is deposited at the top of the dermis layer of skin while body art tattoo ink is deposited deeper in the dermis. PMU lasts 1-5 years and will fade over this period of time making it semi permanent. Because it is such a superficial application of pigment, two sessions are required to achive most goals. A second session ensures proper pigmentation for several years. There can be changes during the second session as well such as color change, shape perfection in addition to adding more pigment. Most PMU is performed using a rotary tattoo machine and smaller diameter needles that traditional tattooing. How fast they will fade depends on many factors including techniques used, pigments used, skin type (oily skin doesn’t retain pigment as well), UV exposure (SPF will protect tattoo) and certain skin care products such as retinols, acids and peels like glycolic acid.

The process will vary depending on what service you are receiving but brow and lips will be similar.
First there will be a consultation to discuss and assess area to be treated. A consent form will be given to each client to review, discuss and sign. Next the shape of the lips or brows will be drawn on and the client will be asked for final approval. Then the area will be treated with a topical numbing cream. Color section will be discussed and then procedure will begin. It may take several passes to achieve proper pigment saturation. After care will be discussed with each client to make sure proper care is given to treated area. A follow up second session is required for all permanent makeup. The second session is performed 4-8 weeks after the first session. At that follow up session, another layer of pigment is placed and any perfecting will be done. In less common situations, a third session is required if pigment retention is less than desired.

Aftercare is very important for PMU. Your aftercare will vary depending on service.
BROWS: and LIPS:You must keep the brow and lip area clean and moist. Aquaphor the day of and instructed on how to use it. Brows and lips should be washed 2x day with mild soap (nothing acidic for acne or anti-aging for example). For 10 days after your permanent make up, you should keep out of the sun, not submerge in water (shower without letting water wash down on the face) and let excessive sweat run down your face (incase you work out regularly). Salt ,hash cleaners and sun can make your pigment fade prematurely. If during your healing you notice any redness, swelling or soreness, please contact Glow immediately. Its normal for brows to scab during healing and its important not to distrurb the scabs. Dry area using papertowel to blot areas dry. NEVER pick scabs. Lips will shed skin 3-5 day after your procedure and may shed again during the first 2 weeks. Pigment for both brows and lips will “settle” into the skin and after 4-6 weeks is considered healed completely. A second session can be done after this 4-6 week first session.
Aftercare for scars and areola tattoos is similar. A Saniderm/Tegaderm bandage may be applied and you will be give instructions during your appointment.
Stretch marks are not normally covered by Saniderm and aftercare is similar to brows and lips. The area is kept clean and moistened by the provided aftercare products.
